I want to end my career by seeing Pak winning ODI World Cup, says Shoaib

LAHORE (APP) – Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik Monday expressed his desire to end his cricket career by playing a vital role in Pakistan team’s victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

I have achieved everything in my career being part of the teams which won the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, now Iwish to see my team winning the ODI World Cup, he told the media at a news conference after the opening day of the Pak team’s training camp for Zimbabwe tour.

The team will feature in a T20 triangular series involving hosts Zimbabwe and Australia from July 1 to 8. Pak team will play a five match series against Zimbabwe from July 13.

Shoaib said he is enjoyed playing cricket and he will hang up his shoes in ODI after the World Cup in 2019.

After quitting one day cricket, I will concentrate on T20 cricket to maintain required form and fitness, he said.

To a question, he said he had no regrets to retire from test cricket as he wanted to prolong his cricket career paying more attention to
one day and T20 formats.

When asked about Pakistan prospects in the triangular series, he said Australia is the number two team in the T20 ranking and it is
going to be a tough event but our team has bright chance as it comprises young talent which has proved its potential.

Shoaib Malik praised the role of the selection committee and he said it comprises quality cricketers who are taking right decision keeping an en eye on the future of Pakistan cricket.

Selection committee is giving chance to those players who are showing consistency which is very important in every player’s career and helps him to build and prolong his cricket career.

He called upon the young generation not to spend a lot of time one their mobile phones and computer and spare some time for sports activities. Without physical fitness a player or a team cannot progress in modern day cricket and fitness is a prime factor in taking teams to excellence, said the all rounder.
