ISLAMABAD (Sarzameen News)- Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) got singular distinction producing largest number of trained teachers in the country.
According to the University’s Faculty of education, these number goes in millions, mostly are females. Approximately, 70 percent trained teachers in the country are educated from the AIOU.
These included those who got either basic teacher education from this mega public sector university, or they improved their professional caliber for on-job promotion.
The teacher training (BEd, MDd, PTc and CT) is most popular program of the University, since it came into being in 1974, promoting the same through distance learning. Annual enrollment in this program is the highest, according to the Director Admissions.
The University re-launched program from the new semester, spring 2018 as well, in accordance with the guideline, set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Curriculum and text books have recently been revised to improve their study pattern, as per the directions of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, who attached high priority to the quality education.
The University has been trying to ensure that their qualified teachers should be the best ones in the market, said Dean Education Dr. Nasir Mahmood. As per the revised schedule, the admission of the program will continue till March 30.
The MEd one year comprises five categories, Elementary teacher Education, teacher education, distance and non-formal education, science education and special education.
The University has also offered one and half year BEd program, with eligibility of MA/MSc qualification. BS or BA (Hon-4 years) second division are qualified to take admissions in the program.
Elementary education, secondary teacher education and science education four year-duration has also been offered. Eligibility for this program is intermediate 2nd division.
The HEC has converted one-year B.Ed program into four year on the basis of F.A. and FSc Education and the University was carrying it teaching program accordingly.
