Top legal counsels refuse to represent Rao Anwar: sources

KARACHI (Sarzameen News)- Sources have reported on Friday that renowned legal counsels including those associated with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have refused to take up suspended police official Rao Anwar’s case.

Reportedly, Anwar is seeking legal help in Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case and no counsel, until the filing of this report, has agreed to defend him.

Sources privy to PPP reported that the suspended official who has been accused of ‘fake encounter’ in Karachi approached three senior lawyers belonging to the legal team of the political party.

Anwar approached a senior lawyer belonging to PTI but was turned down by him as well. Sindh Police earlier today sought help from Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police for the arrest of suspended Anwar after tracing his location in the areas.

A letter has been sent to IG Islamabad and KP in this regard.

It has also been decided that the investigation of Naqeebullah murder case would be handed over to crime branch Additional IG Aftab Pathan while SSP Malir Adeel Chandio, SSP Investigation Zulfiqar Mehar and SSP Investigation Malir Abid Qaimkhani will be a part of the probe.
