KARACHI (Sarzameen News)- The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has on Saturday directed the government to put prime suspect Shahrukh Jatoi and other accused’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) regarding Shahzaib murder case.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar headed the three-member bench at the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court which heard civil society’s petition to nullify the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) verdict.
The court declared the appeal hearable. Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that the legal position of the civil society in this case should be studied.
The suspect’s counsel Latif Khosa opted the stance that both parties have reconciled, therefore, the case should not be opened. On the other hand, the petitioner’s lawyer said while arguing that the SHC neglected important legal points in its decision.
Let it be known that Shahzaib Khan, a Karachi student was murdered in December 2012 and son of a feudal Shahrukh Jatoi among four criminals were awarded sentences by an anti-terrorism court. Jatoi and Siraj Talpur were sentenced to death while Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were sentenced to life imprisonments.
However, an affidavit was filed with the court by parents of the slain student, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aurangzeb Khan and wife in 2013 pardoning both the murderers and the accomplices.
Shahrukh Jatoi among other suspects was released on bail after the Sindh High Court order. The court had directed the suspects to submit surety bonds worth Rs5 lac in this regard.
