LAHORE (Sarzameen News)- London mayor Sadiq Khan called on Punjab chief minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday as part of his South Asia tour as last leg of his visit.
The visiting mayor arrived in Lahore via Wagah Border crossing between India and Pakistan as he earlier had landed in Mumbai as part of his South Asia tour.
Lahore mayor Col (r) Mubashir Javed welcomed the visiting counterpart following which the delegation called on CM Shehbaz in Model Town.
“It was a pleasure to host Mayor of London @SadiqKhan (who speaks Urdu really well) & his delegation in Lahore. Had a thorough discussion on promoting trade and investment between our two countries. The UK-Pakistan partnership continues to deepen with passage of time,” CM Shehbaz wrote on Twitter.
During the meeting, the chief minister deliberated over expanding bilateral ties between Pakistan and Britain. On the occasion, the visiting dignitary thanked CM Shehbaz for the hospitality and said that he is touring Lahore for the first time.
He further said that there are a lot of Pakistani businessmen, scientists and lecturers working in London. He accredited Pakistani community in London to have contributed to giving the city the status that it enjoys today.
Following the meeting, London mayor toured historic Badshahi Mosque and paid his respects at Iqbal’s Mausoleum.

According to the schedule, Sadiq Khan is to be hosted a dinner by Punjab government tonight in Lahore after which he would leave for Islamabad.
South Asia tour of the London mayor has come in after Britain voted to leave European Union termed as Brexit. The tour aims at building and strengthening cultural ties between the region and Britain.
