Families of Tihar torture victims hold demo in Srinagar

SRINAGAR (Sarzameen News)- the family members and relatives of the Kashmiri detainees lodged in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail held a demonstration in Srinagar, Sunday, against the ruthless thrashing of several prisoners in the jail.

Eighteen detainees, many of them Kashmiris, were injured after they were beaten up without any reason by the staff of Tihar jail on the night of 21st November. The victims included Shahid Yousuf, the son of prominent freedom leader, Syed Salahuddin.

Several family members and relatives of the victims of the Tihar jail assault assembled at Press Enclave in Srinagar, today, demanding shifting of their detained kin from Tihar prison to Srinagar Central Jail. Hurriyat leaders Muhammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmed Dar, who also joined the protesters, demanded immediate release of all Kashmiri political detainees languishing in different jails of India and the occupied territory.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, interacting at his residence with a delegation of the relatives of the torture victims in Tihar jail urged the world human rights bodies to take cognizance of the inhuman treatment meted out to the Kashmiri detainees. Grand Mufti of occupied Kashmir, Mufti Muhammad Bashir-ud-Din Farooqi and Deputy Grand Mufti, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam in a joint statement in Srinagar condemned the assault on Kashmiri detainees in Tihar jail.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, talking to the victims of Indian state terrorism in Tral said that the sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiris for securing their inalienable right to self-determination would not go waste and the ongoing freedom movement would be taken to its logical conclusion at all costs.

On the other hand, the Indian Army and police officials had to face embarrassing situation when the members of a cricket team and spectators waved Pakistani flag and shouted pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom slogans during the concluding ceremony of a tournament in Badgam town. The tournament ‘Kashmir Primer League’ was organized by the Indian Army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles unit. A video, widely circulated on social media, shows the players and the spectators raising slogans in favour of Pakistan and freedom when the award ceremony was going on.

Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, led a Milad procession in Magam area of Badgam district, today. Addressing on the occasion, he urged the Muslims across the world to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in letter and spirit for the success in this life and the hereafter.

Thousands of people including Hurriyat leaders and activists participated in a prayers’ session held in Batamaloo area of Srinagar, today, for Abdul Kabir Sheikh, the father of martyred prominent freedom leader, Abdul Hameed Sheikh, and paid glowing tributes to the deceased for his contributions and sacrifices for the Kashmir cause. Abdul Kabir Sheikh passed away in Srinagar on Thursday.
