ISLAMABAD (Sarzameen News) – Pakistan Navy Ship, PNS Shamsheer, on Sunday rescued 41 people during a rescue operation after a Yemeni boat capsized in Gulf of Aden.
PNS Shamsheer is a part of the Combined Tast Force 151 (CTF-151), an international Coalition Task Force of naval ships and aircraft formed under the UN mandate to counter piracy in Gulf of Aden. CTF-151 is presently being commanded by Commodore Shuaib of Pakistan Navy.
Upon receiving the information that a Yemeni dhow, carrying 60 personnel, had sunk 30 nautical miles North West of Socotra Island, surveillance by aircraft was ordered by CTF-151 Headquarters to locate the survivors.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Navy Ship Shamsheer was tasked for search and rescue the operation as On Scene Commander. After a struggle of few hours, PNS Shamsheer, in coordination with naval ships of Spain and Australia with embarked helicopters aided by the land based aircraft from Japan and Germany, rescued 41 persons out of the 61 onboard Yemeni ill-fated dhow. The search for others is continued.
